Julius Caesar

by Cristina D.

Gaius Julius Caesar was a Roman General and Statesman, and a successful and well-known writer of Latin prose.  Julius Caesar was born on July 100 BC and died as a cause of an assassination on March 44 BC. He was born in Subura, Rome and died in Curia of Pompey, Rome. He is famous for his function during the change of the Roman Republic into the Roman Empire.  After several reforms on the Roman government he was declared “dictator in perpetuity”.

Back in that time, Romans viewed sexual actions as an indication of inferiority.  For this reason, when Julius Caesar got the Caesar’s Gallic triumph, his armed forces sang that, “Caesar may have conquered the Gauls, but Nicomedes conquered Caesar”. It was believed that he experienced an affair with Nicomedes IV of Bithynia.

The story of his assassination revealed that Julius Caesar arrived at the Senate when suddenly an individual presented him a formal request for his deported brother. He gave a negative answer to this and a war atmosphere was rapidly on place. In few moments, many of the people in the room were fighting towards Julius Caesar. He tried to escape but because of the amount of blood on the floor he slipped and fell. The men didn’t stop attacking him even though he was already dead.

The dictator’s body was cremated. Today there is a Julius Caesar statue on the place where he was buried.
