The iPod

by Gemma

In early 2001 the late Steve Jobs, CEO of Apple ordered his team of engineers to design and create a new form of digital technology. In April of that same year Apple hired Tony Fadell, a hardware engineer whom had envisioned a new model of MP3 player. Many companies prior to Apple rejected Fadell’s pitches and designs. The company Portal Player and Steve Jobs himself were very active and involved in the development of this new project. The first Ipod was released on October 23rd, 2001.  What made the IPod unique compared to other MP3 players was that it has no controls. Instead it had a wheel in which a user can spin and scroll down a list of thousands of songs. The Ipod’s models and features change constantly. They are now available in a wide variety of sizes, colors and can store not only music, but movies, photos and many other applications. As a result of the Ipod’s success, Apple has gone on to create the IPod touch, the Iphone and the IPad. It is rare to go a day without seeing or knowing anyone who does not own any of these popular electronic devices. Though Steve Jobs sadly passed away from pancreatic cancer on October 5th, 2011, Apple has continued to improve and update their products, as well as create new technologies for the future.
