Wheel

by Christina

Few things in history have changed the human way of life as profoundly as the invention of the wheel has. Though it is unclear who invented it first and in what part of the world it was created, wheels made their first appearances in the mid 4th millennium BC. The wide scale usage of wheels only occurred much later, however, because as we know, in order for wheels to turn well and be useful they must be placed on a smooth surface, and the construction of roads as we know them today only began a bit later. This simple and ingenious creation now allows us to travel great distances, transport goods, create monuments, and so much more. Wheels have forever changed the way we go about our everyday activities for the better. The wheel has also been fundamental in the spawning of other important inventions like the gear. In a obscure way, if the wheel had never been invented than we would not have most of the things we use every day in the way that we do.
